Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Rumors: New Battery Technology and Upgrades

Rumors about Samsung’s next-generation flagship smartphones are already circulating, despite the recent launch of the Galaxy S23 series. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to debut in 2024 and is said to come equipped with improved battery life due to a new EV battery technology. The battery manufacturing division of Samsung is reportedly developing this technology by utilizing the capacity increase technology found in their electric car cells. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is also rumored to feature several upgrades, including a 144Hz refresh rate display and Qualcomm’s unannounced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. The smartphone could also come with 200-megapixel sensors that provide improved zooming capabilities.

According to a report by The Elec, Samsung’s SDI division is developing a new battery stacking method for small batteries found in smartphones, tablets, notebooks, and other consumer electronics devices. This stacking mechanism would increase energy density by over 10 percent compared to the traditional winding method. The stacking method is borrowed from the EV industry and would stack battery components like cathodes and anodes on top of each other, resulting in a tighter and more efficient battery.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to launch alongside the vanilla Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ and could feature Samsung’s new battery technology. Additionally, other flagship smartphones and tablets may follow suit in using the stacking method to improve battery life.

The Galaxy S23 series, which was launched in February during Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event, is already available in India. The Galaxy S23 starts at Rs. 74,999 ($915.63), while the Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra are priced at Rs. 94,999 ($1159.80)and Rs. 1,34,999, ($1648.15) respectively. These devices are powered by a custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy SoC.

Overall, the Galaxy S24 Ultra could be a game-changer for Samsung, offering an improved battery life and a host of upgraded features to take their flagship smartphones to the next level.
